coker gives to the Food Bank, helps others in need

The Student Council at Coker Elementary held a food drive for the San Antonio Food Bank and collected more than 1,500 pounds of food. The Food Bank had announced that they were running low on food to give to the needy during the holidays. The Coker students, teachers, and parents "stepped up to the plate" to collect food for the cause.

The school had a variety of incentives to help encourage teachers and staff to donate. They offered "Jeans for Beans" passes, which allowed the staff to wear jeans to school for one day. Fourth grade teacher Suzanne Horan allowed her students to help sort and pack the canned goods large giant buckets.

The buckets were loaded onto the Food Bank truck and taken to the main Food Bank facility.
