Cibolo Green Celebrates Earth Day
As NEISD's first "green" campus, Cibolo Green Elementary School takes Earth Day seriously.
The school plan a whole day of events on Friday, April 19. Students decorated the school, wore Earth Day shirts, and invited Whole Foods Market talk to students.
Cibolo Green students decorated Whole Foods paper bags that will be given out at the store on Saturday, April 20. Students wrote Earth Day messages and pictures on the bags for customers. Students learned about organic foods and healthy cooking.
Parent volunteers helped the students paint their own t-shirts to wear on Earth Day.
More than 1,000 people enjoyed the Earth Day Picnic lunch outside. Students, parents, and staff were encouraged to pack a "green" lunch with reusable containers and utensils. The goal was to create at little trash as possible.
Cibolo Green was awarded LEED Gold Certification. Green schools are built with a focus on energy and water conservation, utilization of recycled and nontoxic construction materials, indoor environmental quality, site sustainability, design innovation, and use of the building as an instructional tool for students and the community.
