Churchill gives back
Over the course of two school days, the Churchill High School Parliament collected coins from students during their third-period classes. The coins collected ranged from spare change to dollar bills. Their total collection was $775.19.
Students were encouraged to know that the money collected will be used to purchase toys for the children at the Santa Rosa Children's Hospital. This event is a joint effort as the DECA organization will deliver the toys to the hospital to all the children who will be in the hospital over the holidays. "The generousity of our students and staff gives back to the true meaning of the holidays," said Rebecca Hering, teacher.
The students also held their annual canned food drive to benefit the San Antonio Food Bank. Through third-period classes, students were challenged to donate non-persishable food items. Classes were in a competition to see which class would donate the most with the top three winning classes receving a pizza party sponsored by Parliament.
They collected close to a total of 800 non-perishable food items. Mr. Ryal's class took top honors, while Ms. Harral's and Mrs. Hering's class took 2nd and 3rd place. "What a way to give to our community," added Hering. "Thank you to our wonderful student body."
