Churchill and Johnson enjoy success at Janpanese speech contest
The 24th Annual Regional Japanese Speech Contest in San Antonio was held at San Antonio College on February 9. Students studying Japanese at Churchill and Johnson High Schools won the first and third places on Division 1 (poetry recitation), the 1st and 2nd places on Division 2 (poetry recitation), and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd on Division 3 (free speech).
They devoted lots of extra time to practice in order to memorize their poems. Other participants wrote and memorized their original speech. They spent time before and after school and during lunch preparing for the contest. All the hard work paid off. Here are the results:

1st place Mari Cruz Flores (Churchill)
2nd place Nghi Truong (Johnson)
High School Intermediate level Free Speech
1st place David Christian (Churchill)
2nd place Aleksa Diaz (Churchill)
3rd place Hayley Nelson (Johnson)
Claire Nesibitt (Johnson HS), Mari Cruz Flores (Churchill), Nghi Truong (Johnson), David Christian (Churchill), Aleksa Diaz (Churchill) will move on to the statewide contest which will be held on Saturday, March the 9th at Rice University in Houston.
