On February 28 - March 1, Churchill High School sent six orchestras, 331 students, to the UIL Orchestra Concert and Sight Reading Contest. Each orchestra performed three selections for the concert portion of the contest then competed in the sight reading room.
The first orchestra received a rating of Excellence (2) in concert and Superior (1) in the sight reading room. The Philharmonic (Non Varsity) Full Orchestra received a rating of Excellence (2) in the sight reading room and Superior (1) in concert. The remaining four orchestras were awarded Sweepstakes.
Each of those orchestras received a rating of Superior (1) from all three Concert judges and all three Sight Reading judges. "We are very proud of the students and all of their hard work and dedication to making the highest quality music," said Jason Thibodeaux, teacher.
