Camelot community celebrates opening of the spark park

The children of Camelot Elementary School could hardly wait to play on their new playground. NEISD hosted the grand opening and ribbon cutting event for the community Tuesday, November 12.

Families, community members and NEISD employees gathered around to learn about this unique project happening in San Antonio. City leaders, San Antonio Sports, and area school districts are working together to bring the School Park (SPARK) program to San Antonio.

Camelot Elementary School is one of the very first campuses to open a SPARK. Susan Galindo, NEISD Board President, Dr. Brian G. Gottardy, Superintendent of Schools, Ivy Taylor, Councilwoman District 2, and George Block, Chairman of the Board of San Antonio Sports spoke to the crowd about how important this project is to the community.

The park will be used by students during school hours and will be open to the community in the evenings and on the weekends. This gives the Camelot I neighborhood easy access to walking trails, covered playgrounds and a gazebo.
