NEISD celebrates National Teacher, Nurse and school nutrition employees Week

Trinity Prize Ceremony

Some of the district's top teachers were recently honored at the Trinity Prize Reception. Pictured is Terri Eichholz of Hidden Forest, NEISD Trinity Prize Nominee, and Dr. Brian G. Gottardy, superintendent of schools.

North East ISD loves its teachers! May 5-9 is National Teacher Appreciation Week. This year, Teacher Appreciation Day is May 6. Teachers play a vital role in ensuring students receive the quality education they need to become the leaders of the future. Teachers are creative, patient, and dedicated. Teachers serve as listeners, motivators, explorers, and role models.

The NEISD Board of Trustees approved this resolution to recognize our teachers at the regular Board Meeting April 14.

Harris Flu Clinic

Students receive flu vaccines at the Harris Middle School Flu Clinic.

NEISD is also recognizing National Nurses Week May 6-12. National School Nurse Day is May 7. NEISD is one of the few school districts that has registered nurses at its campuses. The district has one of the most expansive health and wellness programs in the city. NEISD is dedicated to students and their health. School nurses promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems, and serve as a health educator and health counselor to children and families. The professional nurse is an integral member of the educational team.

Cafeteria manager Sally Rojas works on meals for her students at Churchill.

NEISD will also honor its hard working cafeteria professionals. The importance and nutritional value of school meals are well documented. For many children, school lunch is the most important and nutrient-rich meal of their day. NEISD school nutrition employees must balance many roles and follow numerous federal, state and local regulations to ensure safe and healthy meals are served to our students every day. Please join us in thanking them for the tremendous job they do!
