Two Schools, one administrator earn awards
NEISD receives special honors for its efforts to promote
Before the new year, two North East ISD schools and a district administrator were recognized for their success in promoting health and fitness at the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD) Convention.
Churchill, represented by Teresa Machu, assistant athletic coordinator and healthy lifestyles coordinator, and Madison, represented by Principal Debra Aceves-Torres and Candace Pearson, assistant athletic coordinator and healthy lifestyles coordinator, proudly accepted their Exemplary School Awards. Rachel Naylor, physical education/health/athletics director, took home the K-12 Administrator of the Year Award.
Churchill and Madison were the only campuses to receive the prestigious award this year. The rigorous application process requires 19 forms of criteria to be met, adding to the significance of TAHPERD’s Exemplary School award. In the past three years, only five campuses have been awarded – three of which were NEISD campuses (Churchill, Madison and Tejeda).
The schools owe a great deal of their program success to Naylor. She has received numerous awards in the past for her dedication in promoting healthy lifestyles and her most recent TAHPERD award is an indication that she is truly a champion of NEISD students.
