Possible Closure for Severe weather

School Bus in Snow

Freezing rain and sleet could move into the San Antonio area early Tuesday morning, and the commute could be challenging. North East ISD is monitoring the conditions carefully and is in contact with area police departments and the Texas Department of Transportation. In addition, district leaders will begin driving roadways at 3:30 a.m. in order to make a determination on a possible district-wide closure.

A decision on whether to closedistrict schools and offices will be made at or around 4 a.m. and then a “phone-tree” system will be used in which district employees, beginning with the administration, form a chain of calls to pass information to each other.

If the Superintendent decides it is in the best interest of the district to close, information will immediately be disseminated to parents and the community. The district will post information on its web site ( and Facebook and Twitter pages. Local media will also be contacted, and a Parentlink message will be sent out district wide to all parents and employees.

With North East being so large, weather conditions on one side of the district may not be as severe as another side, but the decision to close affects all schools in the district and district offices. Only essential personnel instructed to do so should report to work.

The district recently closed schools on Friday, January 24, due to severe winter weather. If another school closure is necessary, both severe weather make up days will be utilized. Those days are Feb. 17 and June 6.
