March of Dimes change Challenge at NEISD
The San Antonio March for Babies Campaign is in full force as North East ISD prepares to raise money in support of March of Dimes. As a member of the 2014 March for Babies Committee, Dr. Brian G. Gottardy, superintendent of schools, has set a goal of $10,000 for the NEISD team.
The March of Dimes celebrates healthy babies while working to prevent prematurity, birth defects and infant mortality. Students will have the opportunity to learn how important it is to give for a great cause. NEISD is encouraging parents and guardians to send their children to school with loose change so they can donate to coin boxes located in each classroom, as part of The Change Challenge. The date for this year’s Change Challenge will be March 17 through April 14.
Participation is fun for students, while at the same time providing an opportunity to learn about volunteerism in the community and develop leadership skills through fundraising. Schools will support the cause by forming teams, providing incentives, and coordinating events, such as pep-rallies and “walk around the school for babies”. The top fundraising elementary, middle and high school will receive special recognition in the March of Dimes insert of the fall issue of SA Woman Magazine!
This year on Saturday, March 22 at SeaWorld, thousands will attend March for Babies in one of the largest free walking events both locally and nationally. As March of Dimes largest fundraiser, the community will come together to generate thousands of dollars toward education, community programs, research, and advocacy in support of stronger, healthier babies.
