Former NEISD student reunites with teacher after 50 years
Most of us can think back to our favorite teacher in school. It’s not hard to forget the positive influence they have had on our lives. Former North East ISD student Sharon Kirklin Middleton was so inspired by her favorite teacher at Ridgeview Elementary School, she decided to reunite with her after 50 years.
“In the sixth grade, my teacher was Edith Speert, who was a remarkable teacher who has molded me into the woman I am,” said Middleton. “She taught me to love art. She taught me to love music. She taught me to love life.”
Middleton visited San Antonio recently and spent much of the July 4thweekend catching up with her old teacher. She enjoyed telling her how much of an inspiration she is and how much she appreciated her as a teacher and a friend.
Middleton attended Ridgeview from 1957 to 1963. Today, Middleton is a 62-year-old attorney living in Alvin, Texas. Speert is retired, but is still involved in the San Antonio community at 92 years of age.
