neisd top spellers compete and advance to regionals

North East ISD middle and elementary schools will be conducting school spelling bees this fall and spring, with winners advancing to the San Antonio Regional Spelling Bee in March 2012. As events are held, they will be added to this page. Please check back regularly for updates.

Bradley hosts spelling bee

Bradley Middle school hosted a spelling bee for its sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students. Seventh grader Brenden Helfrich was the winner this year. He will advance to the Regional Spelling Bee at Trinity University on March 10, 2012.

Bulverde Creek selects spelling bEe winner

Bulverde Creek Elementary held its campus spelling bee on Jan. 30, 2012. Students competed for an opportunity to compete at the regional spelling bee in March. Bullverde Creek's winner was fifth-grade student Karla Liwanes.

Camelot gets students e-x-c-i-t-e-d to spell

Camelot Elementary School held a campus spelling bee for its third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students. After several fun rounds of competition, third-grade student Sara Pena was named the first place winner.


Cibolo Green hosts its first annual spelling bee

Cibolo Green Elementary held its first annual Spelling Bee on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012. Congratulations to first place winner Katherine Belilty, second place winner Anjali Bino and third place Winner Libby Banks.

Katherine will move on to the Regional Spelling Bee to be held at Trinity University this spring. She will also receive a free 1-year subscription to Britannica Online for Kids. Second Place Winne Anjali Binoy will receive a free semester of Powerspeak. Congratulations to all the winners!



Clear Spring names spelling bee winner

Clear Spring Elementary held its annual spelling bee on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012. Two winners from every third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade class room participated in the school-wide spelling bee. After many rounds, the winner was third-grade student Destiny Carter. The winning word was" munchkin."

The Clear Spring community is very proud of Destiny!

Dellview puts spellers to the test

Dellview Elementary held it's spelling bee on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012. They had 35 participants from fourth and fifth grades, five participants per classroom. The 2nd and 3rd place winners were 4th graders from Mrs. Moreno's class - Jalynn Martinez and Laura Farias, respectively. The first place winner was Judith Padilla from Mrs. Stevens 5th grade class.

East Terrell Hills hosts successful spelling bee

Date: Jan. 20

Time: 1:30-2:30 pm

Location: Cafeteria, East Terrell Hills ES, 4415 Bloomdale

East Terrell Hills Elementary hosted a spelling bee for its third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students on Jan. 20, 2012. After several rounds of competition, they named fifth-grade student Daniel as the ultimate winner. He will now advance to the regional spelling bee held in March.



Ed White names winner of spelling bee

On Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, Ed White Middle School held the 2012 Ed White Spelling Bee in the school cafeteria. With 26 contestants participating, it got down to a sixth-grade and eighth-grade student in the last round fighting for the title.

In the end, eighth grader Marco Alvarado, son of Ed White school nurse Patty Alvarado, won. He will now advance to the Regional Express-News Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 10 at Trinity University. Parents and community members enjoyed a boxed dinner from Jason's Deli while watching the competition.

Encino Park names winner after 15 rounds

Congratulations to Thomas Tharakan from Mrs. Peche’s fourth-grade class for winning the 2012 Encino Park Elementary Spelling bee on Jan. 17, 2012. The runner-ups were Erica Galindo and Megan Murase. The winning word was "twelfth." Other words Thomas spelled for the win were: weasel, extemporaneous and hexameter. Congratulations also to third place winner Shilpa Gunaganti. All the contestants were outstanding spellers and represented their classes well.

Thomas will now advance to the Regional Spelling Bee to be held on Saturday, March 10 at Trinity University at Laurie Auditorium.


Hardy Oak fifth grader wins spelling bee

Hardy Oak Elementary held its annual spelling bee on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012. Thirty two fourth- and fifth-grade students participated. After 12 rounds, Jared Lange was declared the winner. The runner-up was Bella Campos. Jared Lange is a fifth grader in Mrs. McDermott and Mrs. Kelley's class. Jared is busy studying for the March Express News Spelling Bee.



Harmony Hills prepares for its spelling bee

Harmony Hills Elementary will be holding the Spelling Bee for their 4th and 5th grade students on Jan. 31, 2012. The winner of the Spelling Bee will go on to the City Wide Spelling Bee!

Harris names spelling bee winners

Location: Cafeteria, Harris MS, 5300 Knollcreek

The Harris Middle School Spelling Bee took place Monday, January 23, 2012. Third place went to Rafael Aviles, second place to Lynn Nguyen, and the first place winner was Ruhma Tarar.

Huebner crowns spelling bee champ

Location: Cafeteria, Heubner ES, 16311 Huebner Rd

Huebner Elementary held its school wide spelling bee on Jan. 13, where fourth- and fifth-grade students competed. The school crowed Elizabeth Wood as the ultimate winner. She is a fifth grade student in Ms. Lepko and Ms. Curtis' room.

Jackson hosts spelling bee, names winner

Miriam Berstein won the annual Jackson Middle School Scripp's Spelling Bee with the word "residue." She beat 17 other contestants, and is looking forward to competing at the regional competition.

Oak Grove student advances to regional spelling bee

Victor Cornejo-Garza and Dean Burrows are the Oak Grove Elementary Spelling Bee champions. Victor Cornejo-Garza will represent Oak Grove at the San Antonio area spelling bee.

Oak Meadow student spells her way to regionals

Location: Media Room, Oak Meadow ES, 2800 Hunters Green

The top two spellers from each third-, fourth- and fifth-grade class at Oak Meadow Elementary School gathered together to celebrate their spelling skills by participating in the annual Spelling Bee. Their parents were present to cheer them on. The students all did a fantastic job.

The top three spellers were Hajoon Bae - 3rd place, Sophia Pinheiro - 2nd place, and in 1st place - Lucia Follman. Lucia will represent the school at the San Antonio Express News Regional Spelling Bee on March 10 at Laurie Auditorium.

Redland Oaks seeks out top spelller

Redland Oaks Elementary conducted its annual spelling bee on Jan. 27 in the library. Twenty four students began the first round, but by the time the 18th round had ended Isabella Curtin, a fourth grader from Kim McManus' class, was declared the winner. Ashton Bynum, a fifth grader from Caron Canady's class, was the runner-up.


Roan Forest winner buzzes to regional spelling bee

Roan Forest Elementary School held its inaugural Spelling Bee sanctioned by the Scripp’s National Spelling Bee on Jan. 20, 2012.

For our first year, we had great participation from our 4th and 5th graders. We had 28 students participate in the Bee. Mrs. Buntley and Mrs. Zamora sponsored the Spelling Bee Club on Tuesdays after school to help students who wanted to have extra help preparing.

This year’s Bee was won by Benyamin Ebadinia, a fifth grader from Mrs. Zamora’s class. In addition, to studying for the Spelling Bee, Ben is a First Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwan Do and also takes piano lessons. He will next compete in the Regional Bee to be held March 10, 2012, at Laurie Auditorium. The winner of the Regional Bee will go on to participate at the Scripp’s National Spelling Bee to be held in Washington, D.C.


Royal Ridge holds spelling bee

Royal Ridge Elementary School students in grades three, four and five participated in a campus wide spelling bee on Jan. 13. The winner advanced to the regional spelling bee to be held in March.



Tejeda holds annual spelling bee

Date: Jan. 18

Location: Tejeda MS, 2909 E Evans Rd.

Tejeda Middle School’s annual Spelling Bee was held on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012. Sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students competed against each other in an exciting 43 round competition.

The Tejeda champion is Yashdeep Sahota. He will participate in the San Antonio Express-News Regional Spelling Bee on March 10, 2012 in Laurie Auditorium at Trinity University.

Thousand Oaks names spelling bee winner

Location: Library, Thousand Oaks ES, 16080 Henderson Pass

Thousand Oaks Elementary's Spelling Bee winner is fifth grader Carissa Robledo-Lurate. She will compete in the City Wide Bee On March 10, 2012.

Tuscany Heights hosts second annual spelling bee

Date: Jan. 20

Time: 1:30-2:30 pm

Location: Computer Lab, Tuscany Heights ES, 25001 Wilderness Oak

Tuscany Heights Elementary School fourth- and fifth-grade students participated in three rounds of spelling bee competition. The first round involved all fourth- and fifth-grade students who took a spelling test in their classrooms. The top two spellers from each class competed in a second written round. The top 10 spellers from round two advanced to the oral bee, which was simulcast live to our school from the computer lab. Fifth grader Gabriella Garcia is the 2012 Spelling Bee Champion. Congratulations to all participants and finalists.



Woodstone holds spelling bee

Woodstone Elementary School held its school spelling bee on Jan. 5. They quizzed fourth- and fifth-grade students before declaring Marcos Marta the winner.
