MacArthur High School junior Nikole Peña and Reagan High School's Elizabeth Faudoa appeared on NBC's The Today Show on April 30, to represent Girls, Inc. on a national level as part of the show's "Love Your Selfie, Reclaiming Beauty Week." Peña and Faudoa are part of Girls Inc. an organization that inspires all girls to be “strong, smart, and bold.”
The Today Show segment examines society’s obsession with body image and how it has negatively affected people around the nation, particularly, women. Elizabeth enjoyed the opportunity to be interviewed on the show by host Savannah Guthrie.
The group, composed of San Antonio area girls, is partnered with Dove’s self-esteem project to promote positive body image. Girls Inc, teamed up with Los Angeles filmmaker, Marta Cunningham, at the Sundance Institute to create a fifteen second public service announcement. The PSA will be featured as part of NBCUniversal’s “The More You Know” campaign across its digital platforms including themoreyouknow.com, the NBC YouTube page under The More You Know playlist, Facebook, Google + and Pinterest.
