Windcrest Optimists honor ed White students

At a December 1, 2011 awards ceremony, the Windcrest Lions Club honored three Ed White Middle School students who were winners of the 2011 – 2012 Windcrest Lions Club/Lions International Peace Poster Contest.

Winners, who received U.S. Savings Bonds, special certificates, and trophies from the Lions Club, were:

Jaylon Carter, Grade 7, First Place;
Alexia McClenic, Grade 7, Second Place; and
Nathalia Salgado-Torres, Grade 6, Third Place.

As first place winner, Jaylon and his poster will compete in the Lions South Texas District competition. The theme of this year’s contest, which is one of the longest running programs conducted by the Lions, was “Children Know Peace,” and these students demonstrated outstanding skills in depicting their ideas about how children throughout the world know peace.
