NEISD hosts Air Rifle Marksmanship match
DATE:
Dec 5-6
TIME: Dec. 5-6: Sporter at 3 pm; Precision at 5 pm; final on Dec. 6 at 7 pm
LOCATION: JROTC Air Rifle Range, 9803 Broadway (formerly Furniture Factory Warehouse)
North East ISD high school JROTC cadets will participate in the Air Rifle Marksmanship match on December 5-6, 2011. There will be two classes of shooting: Sporter and Precision, 3 X 20, and three position (prone, standing and kneeling).
This match will determine the district Air Rifle Champion and qualifiers for Brigade and All Army Service Championships.
This event is a shoulder to shoulder (28 shooters online at one time) Air Rifle competition between the competitive JROTC Air Rifle teams and individuals in NEISD. Cadets will be shooting competition in the three positions of prone, standing and kneeling, with 20 shots per position for two days of the event.
Teams scores will be a combined total of the four scores for each team member, and the top eight shooters in each class of competition will fire a final to determine the district's individual shooting champion.
This competition is sanctioned by the Civilian Marksmanship Program, and the JROTC cadets can earn “Excellence in Competition” or EIC Points for their individual performances. Competitive Air Rifle Marksmanship demands extreme concentration, self discipline, focus and a tremendous amount of individual strength and flexibility.
"Air Rifle Marksmanship is one of four integrated-curricular activities offered to the JROTC Cadets at NEISD," said Colonel Robert Henson. "The district prides itself in connecting students to the campus activities and opportunities through the combination of academics and extra-curricular activities. Recent graduates of the Air Rifle Marksmanship program are now shooting for college and university teams at Sam Houston State University, Texas Christian University, The University of Washington and the Air Force Academy."
Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
