Madison student dominates florist competition at state fair

Junelyn Gamoa

Junelyn hoists the Junior Cup trophy as she celebrates the win.

Madison High School senior, Junelyn Gamoa celebrated a top prize win in the first annual Junior Floral Cup Design Championship at the 2013 State Fair of Texas in Dallas this past weekend.

Every flower, pedal and stem in Gamoa’s floral arrangements represents a different color stroke in a painting. The student’s creative design skills were challenged by four other students from high schools throughout Texas. Gamoa left the competition with a $300 scholarship as she hoisted the Junior Cup trophy while holding a big smile.

Gamao’s talent for floristry has been nurtured by her mentor and floral design instructor Josh Anderson. The competition was made possible by statewide online florist directory,, and its parent organization, the Texas State Florists’ Association (TSFA).
