Madison's Solar Car INitiative students meet energy SEcretary

Students in the Madison High School Solar Car Initiative (MadSCI) enjoyed the experience of attending a town hall meeting and roundtable discussion hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio - Downtown Campus on Feb. 6.

At the meeting, students had the opportunity to meet and speak with the United States Secretary of Energy, Dr. Ernest Moniz, and San Antonio Mayor, Julian Castro. Moniz addressed President Barack Obama's push for use of all energy sources, driving the point that the President's "all of the above" energy policy will lead to a solution of the nation's power needs.

"(STEM education has) long been a pathway to upward mobility in our society," said Moniz. The students of Madison are making sure that statement rings true as their solar car project today, could be the solar powered everyday vehicle of tomorrow.
