Madison JROTC shines at Florida Drill Meet

The Madison High School JROTC represented North East ISD at the All Service Nationals Drill Meet in Daytona Beach, Florida on May 5-6. The James Madison H.S. Armed Drill Team (Mighty Maverick Guard) is commanded by Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Jordan Choate, the Armed Color Guard (the Patriot Guard) is commanded by Cadet Captain Nicholas Mrzlak. The Unarmed Drill Team (Lady Maverick Guard) is commanded by Cadet Major Melissa Kidder and the Unarmed Color Guard (the Lady Patriot Guard) is commanded by Cadet Captain Ruby Zenteno.

The level of competition was tough and all schools competing gave their best. The Maverick Battalion charged forward and gave an exemplary performance. The Lady Maverick Guard took 6th place in the nation and the Maverick Guard took 7th in the nation. The Unarmed drill team brought home a 2nd in tandem team exhibition, 2nd for inspection and 4th for squad exhibition. The Armed drill team took 2nd place in Color Guard (by a tie breaker for first), a 3rd place in squad exhibition and 5th place in inspection; a perfect ending to a fantastic year!
