PALS & Fishing Club host ALE Fishing Fun Trip
The gusty winds and uncommonly cold temperatures on May 2 didn’t keep the ALE (Alternative Learning Experience) students from having a great time at Morgan’s Wonderland. PALS (Peer Assistance, Leadership and Service) and the Fishing Club at MacArthur High School hosted a day of fishing fun at the theme park as each club member buddied up with an ALE student.
President of the Fishing Club and PALS member, Kevin Mcginty, established the fishing field trip last year. As part of a PALS service learning project, Mcginty was inspired by his buddy Collin Christian, whom has Down syndrome. The MacArthur senior decided to bring his passion for fishing and volunteering together by starting a fishing field trip for ALE students.
“I wanted a way to bring the joy of fishing to others,” said Mcginty.
“This is a chance for the ALE students to interact with new people and learn a lot of new skills, like patience,” said senior Fishing Club and PALs member Paige Barnhart. With not very many fish swimming around the pond, the students needed plenty of patience to get a bite.

Nothing beats having the first catch of the day!
The fish may not have been biting too often, but the students had fun anyway.
Going on its second year, PALS and the Fishing Club plan to make the field trip a tradition.
The second catch of the day may not have been a large bass, but it still counts!
