Lopez student raises $1,000 and donates to charity
Gabrielle Parmer, a seventh grader at Lopez Middle School, donated $1,000 in support of children, on Dec. 23. She raised the funds by creating a 12-month calendar with pictures she drew. Gabrielle, a Girl Scout with Troop 465, wanted to assist in ensuring children in need received a Christmas gift and to help brighten their outlook for 2014.
"I made the calendars so I could help others have a great Christmas and a wonderful 2014," said Gabrielle. "I started drawing the pages in September of 2013 and it took 3 months to make."
According to Gabrielle, she didn't know that her calendars would make $1,000. "I am grateful for the money because it went to help children." Her first donation was $500 to The Children’s Shelter and the other $500 to the Salvation Army of San Antonio. Her parents, Burrell and Tracy Parmer, are very proud of her and her genuine thoughts for others during the past Holiday Season.
Gabrielle Parmer stands with Anais Miracle of The Children’s Shelter after her donation of $500 to the shelter, Dec. 23. Gabrielle is holding a calendar she created from her drawings which raised $1,000.
