Longs Creek community enjoys Staary, starry night
More than 100 students participated in the STAAR event.
Longs Creek Elementary School welcomed the community with a STAAR filled evening of events on Feb. 26. Starting with dinning under the STAARS, parents and students were treated to a Hotdog dinner, followed by an art lesson for students, and a STAAR informational briefing for the parents. After a brief introduction on State Accountability by Longs Creeks Principal Glenn Forde, parents and students went to join their different grade levels.
Amanda Peet, Longs Creek Art Club Sponsor arranged for a local artist, Izzy Anderson of Painting with a Twist to give an abstract art lesson to all of our students. Students were set up in different rooms by grade level and the artist provided the lesson through Longs Creek TV. More than 100 students participated in the event.
While students were creating art, parents were learning about the rigor of STAAR and what it will look like for their students. Parents were also given tips on how to help support their students at home.
