Las Lomas and Whole Foods partner up for good cause
Las Lomas Elementary School, in partnership with Whole Foods Market, participated in the 7th annual Ornaments for the Planet. On December 4, Las Lomas students created handmade ornaments to sell for profit at Whole Foods Market to donate to individuals in impoverished countries. Las Lomas families also purchased ornaments through a pre-sale. Each ornament is being sold for $5.00.
Inspired by the Nobel Winning work of Professor Muhammad Yunus and Grameen National Bank, Whole Foods Market established the Whole Planet Foundation to help tackle the problem of world hunger and poverty. Through the powerful work of micro-loans, women in under developed countries are able to qualify for small loans, usually less than $300, to create or expand a home-based business. These loans help families lift themselves out of poverty for generations to come.
Las Lomas students worked with their book buddies to create handmade ornaments that are then sold at the Whole Foods Market. Ornaments will be on display for sale at both Quarry and Vineyard Whole Foods Market locations during the Month of December. This is the second year Las Lomas Elementary will be participating in this service project. Last year, Las Lomas raised over $2000 to help women acquire micro-loans.
