Johnson students devotion to learning Japanese pays off
The 25th Annual Statewide Japanese Speech Contest took place on March 8 at Rice University in Houston. Gabriel Saucedo (9th grade) won 2nd place in Division 1 (poetry recitation), and Nghi Truong (12th grade) won 3rd place in Division 5 (Free speech).
Gabriel devoted lots of extra time in order to memorize the poem, and Nghi wrote and memorized her speech. They both spent time before school, after school, and during lunch preparing for the contest. All the hard work paid off! Japanese speech instructor, Yuka Kato, is encouraging fellow students to and the Johnson community congratulate them when you see them.
