Isabel Comas-Wood, a fourth-grade Dual Language teacher at Colonial Hills Elementary was named Dual Language Teacher of the Year for Region 20 in the category Grades 3 - 5 at a Dual Language Conference on Nov. 4-5, 2011.

There were impressive nominations from across the Region and only two were selected. Director of ELL Programs for NEISD Marie Mendoza was in attendance.

"I am so thankful that there are such dedicated, professional teachers like Comas-Wood who will do whatever it takes to make sure students develop cross-cultural understanding and appreciation," said Mendoza. "She is at the core of what North East is about, and I am so glad I have the opportunity to be a part of the work."

Colonial Hills Principal Diana Montemayor joined Isabel's family and campus Bilingual Specialist Ana Martinez to witness the presentation of the award. As a special surprise, a former student Ivan Melchor presented Mrs. Comas-Wood with a beautiful bouquet of flowers at the podium.
