American lung association awards neisd 3 gold level awards

The American Lung Association (ALA) has recognized three North East Independent School District (NEISD) schools for their accomplishments creating healthy and asthma-friendly environments. NEISD was the only district in the country to earn a gold-level award!

Camelot, El Dorado and Larkspur elementary schools were each presented with a plaque and a banner at a ceremony Thursday, October 24. Senator Leticia Van de Putte also presented each school with an official Proclamation from the Senate congratulating them on achieving such a prestigious award.

The Asthma-Friendly Schools Initiative (AFSI) Champion Awards are given in recognition of schools that have taken positive strides to create a healthier learning environment using the strategies outlined in the Asthma-Friendly Schools Initiative

Diane Rhodes, NEISD's Assistant Director of Asthma Education said about 12 percent of our students have asthma. NEISD has made it a priority to help them stay healthy, in school and ready to learn.
